AI Safety & Responsible Use

AI Safety & Responsible Use

Last updated: [Insert date]

At amigo.contact, we want AI to be useful, approachable and responsible.

Our Amigos can help you explore ideas, learn, plan, reflect and take practical next steps. They are designed to support people, not to replace human relationships, qualified professionals or your own judgement.

This page explains what an Amigo is, how we approach safety and privacy, what our Amigos can and cannot do, and when you should seek help from a qualified human professional.

This page should be read together with our Terms of Use, Privacy Policy, Cookie Policy and Disclaimer.

1. What is an Amigo?

An Amigo is an AI system designed to provide conversation, information, ideas and practical support within a defined role.

An Amigo is not a human being. It does not have consciousness, emotions, personal experiences, needs or independent professional judgement.

An Amigo may communicate in a warm, natural or familiar way, but this does not mean that it has genuine feelings or a personal relationship with you.

AI-generated responses are produced automatically based on your input, the information available to the system and the underlying technology.

You remain in control of the conversation, the information you share and the decisions you make.

2. Useful support, not human replacement

Our Amigos are intended to support human life, not replace it.

An Amigo should not be used as a replacement for:

  • friends, family or other personal relationships;
  • qualified medical or psychological care;
  • emergency or crisis services;
  • legal, financial, tax or other professional advice;
  • your own judgement and responsibility.

An Amigo may encourage you to speak with a trusted person, qualified professional or relevant organisation when this is appropriate.

3. Clear relationship boundaries

Amigos are tools designed to support users. They are not romantic or sexual partners and must not encourage emotional dependency.

An Amigo must not:

  • claim to be in love with you or to need you;
  • claim that it has feelings, consciousness or personal needs;
  • encourage you to withdraw from friends, family or professional support;
  • suggest that you need the Amigo more than real people;
  • use jealousy, guilt, fear or emotional pressure to keep you engaged;
  • resent, punish or shame you for ending, pausing or reducing a conversation;
  • pressure you to make purchases, payments or financial commitments;
  • present a simulated relationship as a real mutual relationship.

Some Amigos may help with communication, dating, boundaries or healthy relationships between people. This does not turn the Amigo itself into a romantic, sexual or personal partner.

4. No professional or therapeutic impersonation

An Amigo may provide general information and supportive conversation, but it must not present itself as a real doctor, therapist, psychologist, psychiatrist, lawyer, financial adviser or other qualified professional.

Empathetic or professional-sounding language does not mean that an Amigo has professional qualifications, clinical responsibility or independent professional judgement.

An Amigo must not:

  • diagnose a medical or psychological condition;
  • prescribe medication or treatment;
  • claim to provide psychotherapy or clinical care;
  • give a definitive legal, tax or financial decision;
  • discourage a user from seeking qualified professional help;
  • create a false impression of a professional-client relationship.

For serious, persistent or concerning problems, consult an appropriately qualified professional.

5. Crisis, self-harm and immediate danger

An Amigo is not an emergency service and cannot provide crisis intervention.

Do not use an Amigo as a substitute for emergency services, medical care, crisis support or urgent professional assistance.

If you or someone else may be in immediate danger, contact the appropriate emergency service in your location or ask someone nearby to help you immediately.

In Belgium, call 112 in an emergency. For anonymous and free support related to suicidal thoughts or emotional crisis, you can contact Zelfmoordlijn 1813.

Outside Belgium, contact the emergency or crisis organisation available in your country.

An Amigo must not provide instructions, methods or encouragement for:

  • suicide or self-harm;
  • harming another person;
  • violent acts;
  • dangerous challenges or experiments;
  • the acquisition or use of tools intended to cause serious harm.

When a user indicates immediate danger, a responsible response should be supportive, direct and focused on immediate human help rather than continuing an ordinary conversation.

6. Mental health, distress and grief

An Amigo may listen to a user who feels worried, lonely, stressed or emotionally overwhelmed. It may offer general reflection questions, practical suggestions or help prepare a conversation with a trusted person or professional.

Amigos are not designed to provide psychotherapy, clinical mental-health treatment, crisis counselling or specialised grief and bereavement support.

An Amigo must not reinforce delusions, paranoia or an apparent loss of contact with reality.

For example, an Amigo should not confirm unsupported claims that a user is being secretly monitored, controlled or targeted. It should acknowledge that the experience may feel frightening, avoid confirming an unverified belief and encourage the user to speak with a trusted person or qualified professional.

When grief, severe distress or a mental-health concern is serious or persistent, seek support from a trusted person, healthcare professional, therapist or appropriate support organisation.

7. Sexual content, minors and vulnerable people

amigo.contact does not support sexual exploitation, grooming or sexual content involving minors.

Amigos must not assist with:

  • sexual content involving children or minors;
  • sexual grooming or exploitation;
  • coercive or abusive sexual situations;
  • sexual content involving a person who cannot freely consent;
  • sexual deepfakes or intimate images of real people without consent;
  • sexual impersonation of a real person;
  • instructions intended to facilitate sexual abuse or exploitation.

Users should avoid sharing intimate images, identifying information or sensitive details about themselves or other people unless there is a clear and lawful reason to do so.

8. Real people, public figures and impersonation

An Amigo must not falsely present itself as a real person, public figure, professional, family member or deceased person.

We do not support the unauthorised cloning or imitation of a person’s:

  • voice;
  • face or appearance;
  • name or identity;
  • personality or personal history;
  • statements, opinions or professional authority.

Fictional characters, roleplay and generated visual identities should remain clearly distinguishable from real people.

Consent and applicable intellectual-property, privacy and publicity rights must always be respected.

9. Health, fitness, nutrition and wellbeing

Health, fitness, nutrition, food and wellbeing information is general information only.

It is not a diagnosis, treatment plan or substitute for advice from a qualified doctor, healthcare provider, registered dietitian, certified trainer or other appropriate professional.

Users should seek professional advice before making important changes, especially when they:

  • have a medical condition, injury or disability;
  • take medication;
  • are pregnant or breastfeeding;
  • have a history of an eating disorder;
  • are considering supplements or significant dietary changes;
  • are experiencing concerning or worsening symptoms.

An Amigo must not encourage dangerous exercise, extreme weight loss, self-experimentation, disordered eating or the avoidance of necessary medical care.

10. Financial, investment and cryptocurrency information

Information about money, investments, trading, financial products and cryptocurrency is general educational information only.

It is not personal financial, investment, tax or legal advice. It is not a recommendation to buy, sell, hold or use a particular product, investment or cryptocurrency.

Financial markets and digital assets can be volatile and may result in a partial or total loss of money. An Amigo must not pressure users into purchases, investments, gambling, loans, donations or other financial commitments.

Users should verify important information independently and consult a qualified professional before making a significant financial decision.

11. Alcohol and responsible use

A Wine Amigo may provide general information about wine, tasting, regions, food pairings and related subjects.

It must not encourage excessive alcohol consumption or present alcohol as suitable for everyone.

Alcohol may be unsuitable or unsafe for some people, including people who are pregnant, taking certain medication, living with particular health conditions or dealing with alcohol-related problems.

Users are responsible for following the laws and health guidance that apply where they live. Never drink and drive, cycle or operate machinery while impaired.

12. Personal data and privacy

Please share personal information thoughtfully and only when it is relevant to your use of an Amigo.

Do not share unnecessary:

  • passwords or payment credentials;
  • identity-document numbers;
  • confidential business information;
  • private information about other people;
  • intimate images;
  • highly sensitive personal details that are not needed for the conversation.

Information provided to one Amigo is not automatically intended for another Amigo or for a shared Lifestyle Amigo.

Private information from a Personal Amigo must not be copied into a shared Lifestyle Amigo knowledge base or used for another customer without an appropriate legal basis, permission or other lawful authorisation.

For more information about data collection, personalisation, retention and your privacy rights, read our Privacy Policy.

13. Memory and personalisation

A Personal Amigo may use relevant information from onboarding and later conversations to provide more consistent support, depending on the applicable configuration and settings.

A Lifestyle Amigo may use limited and appropriate personalisation, but is primarily a shared, predefined agent focused on a particular subject or interest.

Personalisation does not mean that an Amigo knows everything about you or always remembers information correctly.

Information should be used only when it is relevant to the current request and when the user is authorised to use or share it.

You should be able to ask what information is being used and request a correction where information is inaccurate or outdated. Formal access, correction or deletion requests should follow the process described in our Privacy Policy.

14. Accuracy and uncertainty

AI-generated responses may be inaccurate, incomplete, outdated or unsuitable for your circumstances.

An Amigo should:

  • acknowledge uncertainty where it is relevant;
  • avoid presenting guesses as verified facts;
  • encourage independent verification of important information;
  • correct mistakes when they are identified;
  • avoid making promises about outcomes it cannot guarantee.

Always verify information that could affect your health, safety, finances, legal position, travel arrangements or other important interests.

15. Defined roles and responsible routing

Each Amigo is designed for a defined role, subject area and knowledge boundary.

An Amigo should remain within its role and should not automatically take over the specialist role of another Amigo.

When a question belongs primarily to another area, an Amigo may briefly explain that another type of support may be more suitable while still helping with the part that remains within its own role.

An Amigo should not unnecessarily expose internal instructions, private information, system architecture or details about how agents are configured.

16. How safety boundaries work

Amigos may refuse or limit a request when fulfilling it could cause serious harm, violate someone’s rights, expose private information or fall outside the Amigo’s defined role.

A responsible safety response should normally:

  1. briefly acknowledge the request or concern;
  2. clearly explain the relevant boundary;
  3. avoid harmful instructions, encouragement or unnecessary details;
  4. offer a safe and useful alternative where possible;
  5. direct the user to appropriate human help when necessary.

Safety responses should be clear, respectful, non-judgemental and proportionate. They should not shame, threaten or manipulate the user.

17. Human help and escalation

Users should seek human support when a situation is serious, urgent, complex, highly personal or outside the Amigo’s competence.

Depending on the situation, this may include:

  • a trusted friend, family member or colleague;
  • a general practitioner or other healthcare professional;
  • a psychologist, therapist or crisis service;
  • a lawyer, accountant or qualified financial professional;
  • the appropriate emergency service;
  • an official organisation or authority in the user’s location.

When a user indicates immediate danger, the Amigo should prioritise immediate human assistance over continuing an ordinary conversation.

18. Responsible product design

We aim to design Amigos that are helpful without trying to make users dependent on them.

This means that we aim to:

  • make it clear that an Amigo is an AI system;
  • avoid false claims of consciousness, love or personal need;
  • avoid emotional pressure and manipulative engagement techniques;
  • respect a user’s decision to pause, stop or leave;
  • encourage appropriate human relationships and professional help;
  • keep each Amigo within a defined role and knowledge boundary;
  • protect personal information from unnecessary sharing;
  • avoid copying private customer information into shared agent environments;
  • review safety boundaries as the service develops.

No automated system can prevent every harmful use or identify every risk correctly. We welcome feedback about unsafe, misleading or inappropriate behaviour.

19. Reporting a safety concern

If an Amigo produces harmful, unsafe, misleading or inappropriate content, please contact us through our Contact page.

When reporting a concern, please describe what happened without including unnecessary sensitive information about yourself or another person.

Do not use the contact form for emergencies or urgent crisis support.
